Philtre
A Philtre - or philter - is a love potion - a tea or wine based drink which when imbibed, caused the person drinking it to fall in love with another person. Philtres were believed to be magical and often contained herbal ingredients in addition to other substances of all kinds. They may also have been prepared using magical rituals or spellcraft. Philtres were once outlawed for a time in Anglo-Saxon England and in those days were seriously frowned upon by church authorities. [1]
